The Sofia University SEG Student Chapter invites you to a three-day practical course on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of October, on the topic of Deep-seated structures, intrusive centers, and mineralized systems by Juan Carlos Castelli.
The course will contain three parts – lectures, a one-day field trip, and practical exercises.
– The first part (14th of October) consists of a series of lectures, concerning the Interdependence of tectonics, structures, magmatism, and mineral systems;
– The second part (15th of October) consists of a one-day field trip in the Western Srednogorie region, near Sofia, during which the local geology and few ore occurences will be examined, under the guidance of dr. Stefan Velev.
– The third part (16th of October) consists of practical exercises in the creation and interpretation of geologic maps and cross-sections for the purposes of mineral exploration.
Juan Carlos Castelli is an exploration geologist with over 40 years of experience in the exploration of porphyry (Cu and Cu-Mo) deposits, epithermal (Au and Cu-Ag), and IOCG deposits. He graduated in geology from the University of Chile (1981 – 1987) and later specialized in the University of Rennes, France (1999 – 2000).
Castelli has worked as an exploration geologist, and later as an independent consultant for numerous exploration companies in 10 countries (Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Republica Dominicana, Mexico, Australia, Canada, USA).
He is a coauthor of one of the most extensive works on the metallogeny of the Chilean Andes (Camus & Castelli, 2020 https://libro-mineria.origoediciones.com/ ) and many scientific papers.
The course will be held at the Museum of Mineralogy, Petrology and Mineral Resources, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
