Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Economic Geology offers the following masters programs: MSc Program Geochemistry, MSc Program Gemology, MSc Program: Applied Economic Geology, MSc Program: Geochemistry (for non-professionals).

Field trips

Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Economic Geology organizes the following field trips during its duration: General geology and Mineralogy, Petrography and Deposits of metallic and non-metallic minerals, coal, oil and gas.

Facilities

The department is providing the following facilities to its students, researchers and lecturers: laboratories, multimedia center, Geochemistry Library and Museum of Mineralogy, petrology and economic geology.

The academic staff of the Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Economic Geology teaches its students in the following geology directions: Mineralogy (Gemology), Petrology, Lithology, Geochemistry, Economic Geology and etc.

Many of the students, graduated from Geology specialty, successfully build careers are Geologists in companies for search and mining of minerals in Bulgaria and also worldwide – in Africa, Asia, South America, Australia.

MSc Program Geochemistry

The master program in Geochemistry is addressed to all students with bachelor degree in Geology and Geology and exploration of mineral deposits at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” as well as at University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”.

MSc Program Gemology

The masters program in Gemology trains specialists for gemstones testing and assessment of precious stones and ornamental materials, thatccould be implemented as experts and estimators in the fiscal, customs and judicial systems, as well as in the sphere of prospecting and exploration of gemstones and ornamental materials deposits.

MSc Program Applied Economic Geology

The MSc curriculum in Applied Economic Geology is designed to create applied practical skills in mineral exploration corresponding to the recent industry standards. Exploration geological field practice and training is an important accent of the
programme that will be realized in real exploration environment with the support of local and international mining and exploration companies.
